Plan and develop pre-production materials (P3 & M2: U3)
Learning Outcome 2 (U3): Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief
LOCATION RELEASE FORM
An ethical issue would be if there are any revealing photos. This is because it is very inappropriate for the magazine and would not have much relevance to it at all. Also, we do not want Rhymes to be given the reputation of a magazine that shows an inappropriate image. I do not think that people would think Rhymes is a serious rap magazine if their were any inappropriate images. To resolve this, we will be taking our own images and ensuring that they are appropriate for our target audience and of the artists.
One issue that can be seen as both an ethical issue and illegal is libel (bad mouthing someone). This is because it could damage someones reputation for the rest of their career. It is an illegal issue because people have gone to court for being bad mouthed in interviews. Therefore the interview used in Rhymes will not cause any libel issues and everything written will be truthful so not to cause an harm or offence.
We must make sure not to be discriminatory to anyone, especially artists that we are writing about. To resolve this, we will check content written with our editors and artists before publishing. It is important to promote artists fairly and appropriately.
One illegal issue would be for the model to not sign the form and still appear in photos in the magazine. This is because there is no proof that the model has agreed to have their picture taken and it would be illegal to use their image for my publication. To resolve this, I will create forms for my models and artists to sign.
Another illegal issue would be copyright. Rhymes cannot by law take someone else's work. For example, text or images that have been found from another website. This is because taking work from another research can not be used for my publication. This will be resolved as Rhymes will take their own images, produce own content and if images are needed online they will be sourced by copyright free websites.
Racism is an illegal issue. Racism in Rhymes could give us a very bad reputation. We must be careful to not write anything in the magazine that can be seen as racist, even if it were a rapper that had said it. We will also not use any racist language to ensure this issue does not arise. Checking it with an editor would also help.
A final issue that may arise is following the stigma of the Rap genre. There is a negative stigma surrounding rap and Rhymes does not want to encourage this amongst the target audience or any other readers. For example, a lot of Rap music uses bad language/negative themes. It would not be ethically correct to include this within our magazine, especially due to our young target audience therefore to overcome this, Rhymes will avoid this.

FONTS
The fonts I will be using are:
Masthead fonts - I have chosen this font for my masthead because I believe it is suitable for the rap genre. The font is gothic and I think it will attract the target audience to read the magazine. My research suggests that having a font that stands out will engage the customer to want to read the magazine.
Cover line font - I have chosen this font because it seems to be well suited for the rap genre as this is also a gothic font. However, it is a good cover line font as not only is it gothic it so also very easy to read.
Double page spread font - I have chosen this font because it is very easy to read. My research has taught me that a double page spread needs to be easy to read as there is lots of text so it needs to be clear.

COLOUR SCHEME
The colour scheme for Rhymes is mainly going to be black and red. These are suitable colours for the rap genre. I think it is suitable for a rap magazine because using my research I found out that must rap magazines were using a dark colour scheme. This is because black is seen to be a gothic colour it can also be seen as quite a violent colour. The colour red is used as it is a colour that represents blood. Rap is a type of genre that often uses violent lyrics.
